James Walker Fannin Jr. ( – ) was an American military officer and planter who served in the Texian Army during the Texas Revolution.

Located about 10 miles east of Goliad, visitors today walk the landscaped grounds and view the impressive stone obelisk that honors the spot where Fannin surrendered, taking a moment to remember the men who helped forge Texas’ destiny.

James Fannin led the rebels massacred at Goliad in 1836. His defeat inspired the victory that secured Texas independence. Fannin moved to Texas in 1834 from Georgia. When the Texas Revolution erupted in 1835, his ambition put him at the center of the action.
